It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our beloved husband, brother, and father, Alan Wayne Pierce.   Alan had been battling a series of illnesses for some time and on November 23, 2022, God wrapped his arms around him, leading him to eternal life, at the age of 66.

Alan was born on October 2, 1956, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Reggie and Mary Pierce.   He spent his entire life in the Kansas City area.  He attended East High School for three years but spent his senior year in Horton, Kansas, where he graduated.

After high school, Alan joined the Kansas City Missouri Police Department (KCPD).  During his distinguished 45-year career with the department he worked in many units and held many roles including Supply, Dispatch, Records, Fingerprint ID, Parking Control, the Chief's Office, Internal Affairs, and Building Operations.  He retired from the police department just 1 year ago.

He was very proud of the KCPD and its history which was evident by his involvement with the Kansas City Police Historical Society (KCPHS).  Alan was a charter member of the organization and later went on to hold the offices of Secretary, Vice-President, and President.  As most of you know he could not tell a short story and when you got him started talking about the history of the PD it was hard to get him to stop.  He was most proud of the fact that, through his work with the KCPHS, he was able to recognize and honor, Thomas Speers, the first KC Police Chief, by having the 1100 block of Locust given the honorary designation of "Thomas Speers Drive".

Alan had a passion for music which led to his love of the radio station, AM 71 WHB.  Nobody knew the legendary 71 WHB like him… and nobody loved WHB like him.  In fact, he was known as the "Official WHB Historian".  He had the largest known collection of WHB 40 Star Surveys and loved to talk about the history of the station with anyone who would listen.  During the years he became great friends with many of the on-air personalities and he treasured the friendships he developed with each of them.  He worked closely in the mobile DJ business with one of his best friends, the legendary, Phil Jay.  When they got together to work parties, I think they had just as much, if not more fun, than the people they were entertaining.

On December 19, 1999, he married the love of his life, Robin Robinson.  Their wedding ceremony began with the couple playing a joke on everyone in attendance.  As the ceremony wound down the couple danced and acted out "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights" and had everyone in attendance laughing.  Alan and Robin carried the laughter and joy of their wedding day, into their marriage and had just shy of 23 loving years together.    They loved to travel and took several long road trips to various places in the U.S. including Michigan, Texas, South Dakota, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and California.  Most recently, Alan made Robin's dream come true by surprising her with a trip to Hawaii.  He topped it off by renting a Mustang convertible so that they could drive around the island, with the top down, listening to music and visiting various beaches and towns along the way.

In 2018, Alan and Robin adopted their beloved dog, Tink.  Tink completely changed their world and Robin watched as Tink quickly wrapped Alan around her little paw.  Tink brought him so much joy and he always referred to her as "his dog".

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Reginald and Mary (Gamble) Pierce, and two infant sisters, Linda and Mary Pierce.  He is survived by his devoted wife of 23 years Robin; his children John and Linda Pierce; his loving sister Nan Hanna and her husband Dennis whom he thought of as a brother; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at North Kansas City Hospital for their kind and thoughtful care during his last few days.

Alan was much loved by his family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers.  He had a larger-than-life personality and a kind and generous heart.  He will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts, but we take comfort in knowing that he is at peace and watching over us.

The Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm followed by Visitation 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30 ^th , at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home.  The Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 1 ^st , at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.  Entombment will follow at Mount Olivet Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made, in Alan's memory, to the Kansas City Police Historical Society .

Pallbearers will be members of the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department.
