Alfonso "Al"
Teranella
Sep 16, 1947 — May 13, 2022
Al was born in Kansas City, Missouri on September 16, 1947 to Jasper and Catherine (Rima) Teranella. He attended St. John the Baptist Elementary School, Northeast High School, and Central Missouri State University. As a teenager, Al worked for Scimeca's Supermarket. In adulthood he worked and retired from American Century.
What Al lacked in siblings, he made up for in his numerous friendships he made throughout his life. He could talk to anyone, loved people and was always willing to listen. From playing stepball on Olive Street to visiting to the neighborhood drug store Coovers, he was, in his own words, "one of the guys". Card games with Al and family were legendary. He so enjoyed Saturday mornings with his cousin and close friends. This was always followed by visit to the casino. Al loved all sports. Whether it was the Royals or Chiefs, he never missed watching his hometown teams. He loved all things Italian, but pasta with sauce with side of sausage was his favorite. Al showed respect to everyone he knew. Whatever the occasion, Al was there. He was the first to show up at weddings or funerals.
Life handed Al many challenges. He met them head on with dignity and acceptance.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, and his lifelong friend Frank Incaprera. Survivors include a special cousin, whom he considered a brother, Al Lasala, and two special friends Bill Hessel and Phil Dispensa, and his cat Vegas.
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change". Words Al lived by.
