Obituary

Anthony C. Giglione, age 90, of Leawood, KS, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021, at St Joseph Medical Center. The Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m. on January 28th at the Church of the Nativity, 3800 W 119th St., Leawood, KS 66209, followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Raytown, MO. The family requests memorial contributions to the Nativity Parish School Guardian Angel Fund or St Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Anthony was born June 19, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri to Carl and Lena (DiCapo) Giglione.  He was raised and grew up in Kansas City's North End (Columbus Park), as well as the Historic Northeast.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister and brothers-in-law Esther and Sam Zicarelli, and Frank Santillan.  Anthony was a lifelong area resident.  He attended Holy Rosary Grade School, De La Salle High School, and graduated from Rockhurst College after serving 4 years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Anthony married Joan Elizabeth Distefano on April 27, 1957 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kansas City, Missouri.  They were married almost 64 years and raised three sons together.  He enjoyed a long career with IBM, retiring in 1991 after 33 years.

Anthony is survived by his wife, Joan; children Carl (Linda) Giglione, Jim (Debbie) Giglione, Stefan (Janine) Giglione; seven grandchildren: Anthony Giglione, Lauren (David) Hobson,  Tony and Angie Giglione, John, Philip, and Peter Anthony Giglione; two great-grandchildren Kayleigh and Brooklyn Hobson, sister Virginia Santillan; 10 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews and cousins, among them, first cousins Vita and Antonino Pisciotta of Florence, Italy and Pasqua Cappagli of Pisa, Italy.

Anthony loved God, his family, and the Church.  He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs, Royals, and Missouri Tigers fan.

He was the best Father and Papa anyone could ever ask for and he will be dearly missed.
