Obituary

It is with great sadness we share the passing of our much-loved family patriarch, Tony Mancini. Tony passed away peacefully with family by his side, November 14, 2022, at his home in Lee's Summit, MO.

Tony was born on January 31, 1932, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Tony and Lena (Leggio) Mancini. He graduated from Cardinal Glennon High School, class of '49. Following high school, he studied for a time at the Augustinian Fathers Seminary, in Kansas City, Kansas, and Rockhurst College. In 1952, Tony joined the Marine Corps where he proudly and honorably served in Korea along the 39th parallel as a telegraph operator. He began his career at Kansas City Power & Light Company (Evergy) in 1956, working in a number of positions over the years. After 34 years of service to KCP&L, he retired as Supervisor of Stores in 1990. His retirement years were active pursuing his many hobbies: BBQ competitions, Elena's Catering, woodcarving, and artistic paintings in watercolor and pastels. His years traveling to Arizona for winter months found him making many new friends and exploring new artistic talents. He was a loving husband, devoted father and proud grandfather.

Tony was predeceased by his parents Tony and Lena (Leggio) Mancini; his sister Carmela Barresi (2019); and his ex-wife and mother of his three children JoAnn Marotta Mancini (2003). He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Janice Mancini; his children Mike Mancini (Robin), Elena Shultz, and Frank Mancini; stepdaughter Leslie Sampson (Chris); grandchildren Jovonna Jasper, Elizabeth Roberts, and Blayke Mancini; five great-grandchildren; his brother Angelo Mancini (Jackie); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to thank Enhabit Hospice & Physical Therapy for their kind and thoughtful care.

Tony was much loved by his family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers. We will miss you and you will forever be in our hearts. You have been a wonderful friend, father, grandfather, and husband, and have touched our hearts in more ways than you can know.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 18, at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church. Cremation will follow the services.
