Armando M. Martinez, 82, was called into the Kingdom of God on March 16, 2012. He had suffered from Alzheimer's disease for eight years before succumbing to it. He is reunited in Heaven with his parents, Eduardo and Petra Martinez; his son, James "Jimmy" Martinez; and his brothers and sisters, Raymond, Edward, Vicky Orpeza, and Connie Velasquez; as well as his mother in-law, Dolores Nunez. He is survived by Celia, his wife of 50 years; his son, Gilbert Martinez and wife Tara and grandson, Michael James; his brother and sisters Helen Mendez, Carman and Jesse Villanueva, Frances Conchola, Ruben and Peggy Martinez; brother and sisters-in-law, Salamon and Elvira Rangel, Maynard and Virgina Dominguez, Elicio Nunez, and Melchor Nunez; and many nephews and nieces on both sides of the family.

Visitation will be at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 416 W. 12th St., Kansas City, MO, on Thursday, March 22, at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Entombment will be at Mount Calvary Mausoleum, 39th and State Ave, Kansas City KS, following the Mass. Armando joined the National Guard after graduating high school and then enlisted in the Army where he served 3 years. He fought in the Korean War from 1950 – 1953 in the 1st Calvary Combat Infantry, where he earned 3 Bronze stars, a Combat Infantry Badge, a Korean service medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. After returning from Korea he attended Finnley College via the G.I. Bill and studied electrical engineering. He worked for Thomas J. Lipton for 35 years as a foreman, and then a supervisor. He retired in 1990 and always spoke well of his co-workers and friends at Lipton. Armando was a long-time member of the Campo-Manfri-Barberi American Legion Post 151 and the VFW. Among his hobbies were traveling, gardening and attending sporting events with his son Gilbert.

The Pallbearers will include: Arturo Zamarripa, Roman Gonzalez, Manuel Garcia, Alfred Rangel, Ramon Hernandez and David Conchola.
