Betty married Jewell Braxten Helm in October of 1944.  She worked in food service for the R5 school district in Parkville, Missouri for over 40 years.  Some of her fondest memories was the camaraderie she had with the women she worked with in the kitchen and seeing the smiling faces of the school children.  Her natural talent for cooking was enjoyed by all and she was well known for her delicious pies and her secret recipe for macaroni and cheese. She is remembered for her love for her husband and family as a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. Betty was an active member of the Antioch Bible Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Orrin Edward and Lola May Friar; her brothers, Ed, Joe and Jim Friar; and her daughters, Linda Jo Burdick and Joyce Helm Gray.

Along with her husband JB, Betty is survived by her son Landon Helm and wife Julie Selby Helm of Prior Lake, Minnesota; her sons-in-law, Scott Gray and Jerry Burdick of Kansas City;  six grandchildren, Jennifer Stewart, and Steven Burdick of Kansas City, Hailey Helm Crundwell of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Emily Vogel of Columbia, Missouri, Ryley Carlton of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Keenan Gray of Kansas City; and three great-grandchildren, Sydney Stewart, and Samantha Stewart of Kansas City, and Gus Vogel of Columbia, Missouri.
