Obituary

Betty L. Serrone, 97, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the home of her daughter.

Betty was born in Wichita, Kansas and raised in Kansas City, Kansas. At the age of 17, after graduating high school, she started working at North American Aviation and became a "Rosie the Riveter" – a job she dearly loved. It was there she met her future husband John J. Serrone Sr. They married on September 13, 1947, and both worked for Safeway Stores, her in the office and him on the retail side – another job she really loved. They raised three children in Northeast Kansas City. Betty was very active at Holy Cross school and church – PTA, Girl Scouts, Altar Society – a typical 1950's mom! Betty enjoyed the simple things in life – a good party, a good pinochle game, picnics. She never thought she was a particularly good cook, but we sure thought so!

Betty was finally able to travel some after her children were grown. She enjoyed many cruises, trips to Branson and Las Vegas, and two overseas adventures. She loved visiting the casinos here, especially the buffet breakfasts surrounded by any or all family members and friends, young or old, who could come. Betty retired from Mercantile Bank and became a 'lunch lady' at Holy Cross school – yet another job she loved!

Betty was preceded in death at a young age by her father Peter Dorman; her mother Gladys M. Walters in 1980; and her husband John in 2003. She is survived by her loving children Cathy and Larry Farrell, John J. Serrone Jr., Patti and John Brewer; her cherished grandchildren Kim and Mark Wohlers of Woodstock, Georgia, Johnny and Ashley Serrone of Kansas City, Dr. Joseph Serrone and Dr. Joanne Martires of River Forest, Illinois, and Steven George of Kansas City; eight precious great-grandchildren: Jake, Mia, and Charlie Wohlers, Johnny Joe and Giana Serrone, Mila and Leo Serrone, Max George, and two great-grandsons on the way. She loved them all more than they will ever know! Betty also leaves behind nieces, nephews, many special friends, and daughter-in-law Connie Wells.

A life well lived – we will love you forever.
