Obituary

Burton (Burt) Leon Medall, 76, of Valencia, CA, passed away and into the arms of Jesus on at 12:28 pm, May 24, 2022, at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, CA.

Burton was born at 1:55 am on Christmas Day, December 25, 1945, in Los Angeles, CA to Morris and Esther (Krader) Medall. Burt was a lifelong resident of Los Angeles County and had lived in Valencia since 1985.

Burton attended Van Nuys High School but graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School. He earned an AA degree in art with a minor in music from Los Angeles City College. He earned a BA degree from California State University Northridge (CSUN) with a major in art and minors in anthropology and music. Burton was also a veteran and served proudly in the Army National Guard.

For over 45 years, Burton worked in the animation field as an animator, animation supervisor, and animation timing director at many studios including Hanna-Barbera, Filmation, Calico, Universal, Film Roman, Bil Melendez, and Walt Disney TV. Some of the shows he worked on included Scooby Doo, Flintstones, He-Man, Tom & Jerry, Denver the Last Dinosaur, Charlie Brown, Garfield, Lilo & Stitch, Micky Mouse Clubhouse, My Friends Tigger & Poo, Curious George, and Transformers.

Burton loved music, singing, art, and photography. He was an avid reader and a walking encyclopedia of information on movies and singers. He enjoyed collecting movies, books, music, and animation related collectibles.

Burton is survived by his wife Rita Marie Medall (nee Kiefer); his brothers Irving Medall of Las Vegas, NV and Steven Medall (Karin) of Manona, WI and their children Antonette Medall Allen, John Medall, Stacey Medall, Michael Medall, Nicholas Medall and many grand and great nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins. He is also survived by extended family members Lane and Gayle McDonald, niece Megan McDonald Tayone (Danny), and goddaughter Cicely Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents Morris & Esther Medall, his father and mother in-law Carl & Angela Kiefer.

Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, Kansas City, MO. Graveside services will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Mount Washington Cemetery, Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his name/memory.
