Obituary

Calvin Stallings, born December 7, 1965, passed away in his home on Sunday, March 18, 2018, surrounded by people who loved him dearly.
Calvin was born in St. Louis, MO, to Minnie Stallings. His parents died when he was very young. After losing his family, he was shuffled around the disability service system in Missouri until he landed at Wood Haven in Columbia, Missouri, where he met Michael P. McCarthy, his original guardian. Mike helped Calvin go to school in New York in the early 90s. There he worked a few jobs, one for which he was featured in the New York Times. Mike then helped Calvin to buy a home in the Waldo area in 1997.  Calvin was supported by many over the years, including his successor guardian, Rachel K. Hiles, to live a very good life in his home until his last breath. Calvin challenged the perceptions and expectations held by many about the life a person with a disability could live and made an incredible impact on everyone that knew him.
Contributions may be made in honor of Calvin's memory to the Fuller Center for Housing of Greater Kansas City . Condolences may be offered at www.passantinobros.com
