Carl Gurera, 86, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at Lee's Summit Medical Center. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, November 14, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124, where the Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Family and Friends will gather on Saturday, November 15, at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, 130 NW Murray Rd., Lee's Summit, MO 64081, where the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Toys for Tots.
Carl was born March 29, 1928, in Kansas City, MO, to Carl and Elizabeth (Mangiaracina) Gurera and grew up in the northeast area. He and his wife Virginia were owners of Sunrise Beach Laundromat and Touch of Italy Drive-In in the early nineties, before retiring to Lee's Summit, MO. He will be missed and always remembered for making Italian holiday cookies with his family.
Carl was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia M. Gurera, in 1997; his parents; and brother, Joseph Gurera.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Gurera; daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Greg Hurst; four step-daughters and their families; grandchildren, Christy Green, Carl Potter, Nicholas and Laura Potter, Michael Potter, Daniel and Amie Hurst, Jack Hurst; twelve great-grandchildren; sister Barbara Raniolo; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joann and Joe Mike Sansone, Carol and Vince Guadagnano, Caran Carramusa; and many nieces and nephews.
