Carol Arlene Henry Kortmeyer, 88, passed away on June 27, 2016, at Village Shalom in Leawood, Kansas, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. She leaves her three loving daughters: Kelly Privitera (Joe) of Leawood, Paula Harmon (Carl) of Kansas City, and Lori Knowlton (Scott) of Blue Springs, and her six adoring grandsons: Carl Privitera III (Caroline), Joseph Privitera II (Kaitlin), John Alex Privitera, Vincent Privitera, Charles Knowlton, Samuel Knowlton, and one great-granddaughter: Liliana Perle Privitera.

Carol was born on the family farm in Bluffton, Ohio, on April 29, 1928, the third of four children born to Ruth Powell and Edward Paul Henry. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Evelyn Henry and Geraldine Baier of Bluffton, Ohio and her brother: James E. Henry of Columbus, Ohio. She was valedictorian of her high school class and after completing business school she enjoyed an adventurous career working for the Shell Oil Company as a geologist's assistant. She traveled throughout the western United States wherever Shell drilled for oil. Carol was a woman ahead of her time and she set an example for her daughters that they followed throughout their lives.

In 1959, she met and married her husband, Jack W. Kortmeyer. They were married in Billings, Montana eventually settling in Kansas City, Missouri in 1960. After raising three daughters, Carol began a twenty-five year career with Waddell and Reed working as a research librarian. After her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandsons fishing and golfing. She was an avid golfer who won the Women's Montana Open in 1957. She was also a talented seamstress who made beautiful clothing and quilts.

Carol was a devout Catholic and longtime member of Nativity of Mary Catholic Church in Independence, Missouri. A special family Mass was held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kansas City, Missouri, in celebration of her life.
