Dr. Charles Harris "Doc" Heflin, Jr., 81, passed away May 18, 2013, at Vitas Hospice Care at Research Medical Center. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124, where the Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 23, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery.
Dr. Heflin was born April 6, 1932, in Kansas City, MO to the late Charles and Lucille Heflin. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He received a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College and practiced in the Kansas City area for over 50 years. He was devoted to his work and to helping everyone he could. Doc was an avid golfer and enjoyed deep sea fishing and horse races. He was a member of the Ararat Shine Temple and member of Masonic Lodge #630.
Doc was preceded in death by his parents; and two siblings, Harry Heflin and Jacqueline Plost. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Reyez Heflin, of the home; his children, Cheryl Rose (Todd), Brian Heflin (Suzanne), Mark Heflin (Carla), Michael C. Reynolds; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his buddy of the home, Yeller the cat.
