Obituary

Christine "Chops" Vaca, 72, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on April 14, 2026, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 20, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 1310 Westport Road, Kansas City, MO 64111, where the Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church. Graveside services will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Christine was born on October 22, 1953, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Antonio and Juanita (Hernandez) Vasquez. Though an only child, she formed deep, lifelong bonds with her cousins, who became like sisters to her. She attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School and graduated from Bishop Lillis High School in 1971.

Following high school, she began her career as a bookkeeper for several law firms. After being laid off, she created "Grandma Choppy's Babysitter Club," where she lovingly cared for many children. In 2002, Christine was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a battle she faced with strength and resilience—and ultimately overcame. After years of devotedly caring for her parents, she later worked at Guardian Angels Parish, a place that meant so much to her.

Christine's greatest joy in life was her family. She treasured her roles as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Known for her bright smile, warm hugs, and deeply caring nature, Christine touched countless lives with her kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered, and her love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Juanita Vasquez, and her daughter of the heart, Rachel Vaca.

Christine is survived by her daughters: Genece (Alonso) Peña, Katrina Vaca(Carlos Diaz), Jenni Vaca, and Christi Jo Vaca; her grandchildren, Bryana, Angel, Johnny Joe, Andryana, Antonio, and Celea; her great-grandsons, Romeo and Benecio; her children of the heart: Carmen Vaca, Robert Vaca, and Sandra (Johnny) Gonzalez, along with many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her former husband and forever friend, John Vaca.
