Connie Porrello, 81, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, November 19, 2013. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Friday, November 22, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1357 NE 42nd Terr., Kansas City, MO 64116, where the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Mt. Saint Mary's Cemetery.
Connie was born in Kansas City, MO on November 28, 1931, to Felici and Margaret (Tortorice) Giordano. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, St. Patrick's Parish, and the American Daughters of Columbus where she was known during bocce season as "Captain Connie" and enjoyed helping to organize events. She worked at The Jones Store Co. downtown in the wig salon, and helped for many years at Avenue Pawn & Fine Jewelry. Widowed at the age of 35, she persevered. Her greatest accomplishment was raising her three young children on her own.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Porrello Jr., in 1967; and her brothers, Sammy Giordano and Jimmy Giordano. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Roseanne and Joe Abbott, Joe and Sandie Porrello, Margaret Anne Marsala; her grandchildren, Joe Abbott, Angela and Lee VanMeter, Andrea and Greg Nawalanic, Connie Jo and Chris Lucas, Christina and Todd Taylor, Joe Porrello Jr., Joe Anthony Marsala, Maria Marsala; seven great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Sunday and Michael Siragusa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Connie's pallbearers will be her grandsons.
