Obituary

Danny Hernandez of Kansas City, MO, left this world to be with his parents, brother, and sister on August 26, 2017. He leaves a legacy of love and absolute devotion to his family.
Born April 23, 1947, to Lawrence and Leona Hernandez, he spent most of his childhood in Kansas City's "North End." He entertained generations of his family with stories of growing up there, attending school at Holy Rosary, growing up happy with so little, endless summer days hanging out at Chee-Bay's Drugstore, and singing with his friends.
Danny graduated from DeLaSalle High School in 1965, the same year his son Danny was born. Nick was born in 1967 and his "Jenny Penny" in 1970. In 1973 Danny married the love of his life, Dolores Torres, and gained two sons Richard and J.J. He and Dolores said hello to daughter Danielle in 1978 and son Michael in 1980.
The family grew with the marriages of his children and he loved Jamie, Gretchen, Audra, Paula, and Shijil like his own children.
He worked at Commerce Bank for years before moving on to Missouri Probation and Parole from which he retired after 26 years. His wit and empathy not only helped his many clients but endeared him to his whole office.  His commitment to helping others change their lives for the better earned him the respect of all whom he worked with.
He was unswervingly devoted to his family and spent countless hours at their track meets, plays, scout meetings, volleyball games, dance recitals, anything and everything they were involved with. Then he did the exact same thing with his grandchildren. He was devoted to making sure his family stayed close to God. He also supplied a steady stream of Dad jokes. His humor was infused with bad jokes and love, and was legendary with his entire family and many friends. He could make anyone laugh and cracked jokes through his entire illness.
The Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. followed by Visitation from 4:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 31, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 911 E. Missouri Ave., Kansas City, MO 64106. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 1, at Holy Rosary Church, before laying Danny to rest in Mt. Saint Mary's Cemetery in Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made at www.Uplift.org . Danny was a volunteer there, helping supply the homeless with warm clothes, blankets, food, and words of encouragement.
Saying goodbye to the best Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, and Friend in the world isn't easy but Danny leaves behind a large extended family with a wealth of wonderful memories, devotion, and humor. We will always feel your presence with us.
