Obituary

Darlene Joyce Kirse, 82, passed away April 9, 2022.

Darlene was born to Louis and Beatrice Moellenbeck and had two older brothers, Louis Moellenbeck and James Moellenbeck.  She was born in Mexico, MO and raised in St. Louis, MO.  Darlene graduated high school from Ursuline Academy in 1957.  She was married in 1959 and over the next several years became the proud, devoted and loving mother of five children.  Darlene was a devout Catholic and served most of her working career as a parish secretary at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and at Saint Catherine of Siena parish, both in Kansas City, MO.  She also served in leadership roles with Teens Encounter Christ (TEC).  As a mother, Darlene took great care in providing for her children's needs and creating an environment in which they could grow up with a good Catholic and Christian faith.  She was a strong believer in Catholic education and made it possible for her children to attend Archbishop O'Hara high school.

Darlene is preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, her daughter Leslie Swaters (Steve), her granddaughter Molly Kirse, and grandson Matthew Kirse. Darlene is survived by her four sons: John Kirse (Jennifer), Michael Kirse, Daniel Kirse (Kathy), Patrick Kirse (Michele), 12 grandchildren (Nicholas, Benjamin, Christina, Laura, Emily, Sarah, Nathan, Haley, Jacob, Samuel, Samantha, and Ashley) and one great grandchild (Caroline). Darlene took pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.  She loved to engage in the lives of others and her infectious smile and hearty laugh will be missed by all who knew her.  Darlene left us with many wonderful memories that we carry in our hearts as we look forward to the day we see her again with our loving Lord in heaven.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by the Rosary at 10:45 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
