Obituary

David Eugene Scheele, 79, of Shawnee, Kansas (formerly of Belton, Missouri), passed away March 10, 2023.

David was born August 14, 1943, in Diller, Nebraska, to the late Henry Louis Carl Scheele and Effie Greider-Scheele. He was a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran of Vietnam, serving from 1961 until his honorable discharge as a Sergeant in 1970. He worked in managerial positions for various restaurants and retail, including QuikTrip and Subway, until his retirement. He was a member of Belvidere Heights Baptist Church for 30 years. David grew up playing sports in school and loved coaching teams for his children and in the community. He was an avid Nebraska football fan.

Along with his parents, David was preceded in death by his siblings Donald Scheele, Dorothy Bentley, Carol Robertson, and Diane Buchannan; nephews Greg Scheele and Mike Scheele; son-in-law Doug Sprague; granddaughter Dawna Kay Sprague; and his former wife and mother of his children Vera Kay Lane.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years Joyce A. Scheele; his children Dawn Scheele Sprague, Jeff Scheele (Stephanie), Chris Scheele, Mike Ross (Jason), Pat Ross (LeAnne), Jeff Ross (Robin), Mark Ross (Teresa), and Beth Ross Smith (Greg); his grandchildren Brittany, Marissa, Lucas, Linsey, Deric (Jasmyn), Liberty, Bella, Gabe, Cody, Sammie, Tyler (Alyssa), Tony (Lacey), Justin, Cameron, Jeremy, Melinda, Sarah, Casey, Cory, Will (Danielle) and Samantha (Drew); nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 25, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. [ LIVE STREAM ]. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .
