Dolores A. Gioia, 90, passed away Monday, September 18, 2017. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m., with the Rosary prayed at 10:15 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 7207 NW Hwy 9, Kansas City, MO 64152. Entombment will be at Resurrection Mausoleum, Kansas City North. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Therese or Keeler Women's Center .

Dolores was born January 26, 1927, in Kansas City, KS, to John and Theresa (Engler) Flackmiller. She was a 1949 graduate of Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison, KS, and began her career as a registered dietician at KU Medical Center. After over 20 years at KU she worked at The Mid-America Dairy Council, and then retired from the Wyandotte County Area Agency on Aging. Dolores was a member of St. Therese Parish since 1959 where she was active in many ministries, including the Altar & Rosary Society. She was an active gardener and member of the Kansas City Garden Club where she won many awards. Dolores enjoyed traveling nationally and internationally with her husband. An important part of her life was preparing meals and gathering her family at the dinner table.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; and her sisters, Theresa Marie Burgess and Irene McManus. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, John J. Gioia; her children, Lisa Gioia, and John Gioia and Brent Allen; brothers and sister-in-law, John Flackmiller, Delbert and Janice Flackmiller; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edward Burgess, Virginia Gioia, Josephine Gautieri, Andrew and Karen Gioia; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
