Obituary

Don Anthony Ancona passed away on May 26, 2026, at the Northland Rehabilitation Center, at the age of 77.

Don was born on December 18, 1948, to the late Frank and Anna Mae (Colletta) Ancona. He attended DeLaSalle High School and then transferred to Northeast High School where he graduated in 1967. Born and raised in the Northeast Neighborhood of Kansas City, Don was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and cousin.  He had many lifelong friends, who he met with every Thursday morning for breakfast until his declining health prevented him from joining them.  He was a car connoisseur from his days working at Frank Ancona Honda where he was a parts manager.  He owned many different cars in his lifetime from a Cadillac convertible to a Honda Prelude.

All through his adult life, Don cared for his family. He moved two doors down from his parents and cared for them until their deaths. Then he was Aunt Pauline (Colletta) Biondo's "go-to guy" for whatever she needed. When she could no longer live alone, Don bought a home in the Northland and planned for her to live with him.  However, their plan was derailed when she unexpectedly passed away.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Anna (Colletta) Ancona; his niece, Diane M. Pace; nephew John (JP) Pace; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his sister Marie Szymanski (Arizona); his brother Frank J. Ancona (California); nephews Frank J. Pace and Michael A. Pace; great-nephew Blayne Pace; great-niece Alyssa Patton Ellsworth; and many cousins and relatives.

Our thanks to the staff at Northland Rehab, to Roma and Tracy of the Residential Hospice Team.  Their compassionate care and frequent visits with Don meant so much to him and to us.  A special thanks to Fr. Timothy Armbruster who dropped everything and was there to anoint Don before he took his last breath.  God truly was at work.
