Donald Francis Borts, 92, passed away August 31, 2021, at VA Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 3, at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church, Independence, MO. The Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 4, at Nativity of Mary Church, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Mr. Donald Borts was born July 21, 1929, Prairie Home, Missouri. He was the oldest son of Joseph Daniel and Viola (Brizendine) Borts, being the oldest of 13 children. He went to school until the 8th grade and then he obtained his high school diploma (GED) in his 50's. He worked at Craig's Dairy in Boonville, MO from 1948 until February 1951 as a pasteurizer before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He entered service with the U.S. Army, February 7, 1951, in Kansas City, MO and was sent to Camp Crowder for basic training. He then attended cooking school from May to June 1951 and then was sent overseas to Korea where he served one year and 53 days. He earned the Korean Service Medal with two camp stars and United Nations Service Medal. He was appointed Sergeant First Class in May of 1952 and was honorably discharged on November 15, 1952.

After the Army, he married Maria Theresa (Caponetto) Borts September 26, 1953, and lived in Kansas City, MO. He briefly worked for General Motors in Fairfax, Kansas. He was then employed by Borden's Dairy, Fairmount Foods, and Foremost Dairy where he worked in the plant, loaded trucks, and drove over the road. He was a member of Teamsters Local 41. He later worked as a Federal Police Officer at the IRS on Bannister Road until he finally retired in 1996. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and taking care of his home during his retirement. He was a member of American Legion Post 21 in Independence, and the VFW. He was also a parishoner of Nativity of Mary Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary; daughter Carmen Frances Johnson; sisters Norma Borts and Sharon Rohrbach; brothers Gary Borts, Jacob Borts and Robert Borts; brothers-in-law Delano Dockins and Rolo Timm; and sisters-in-law Joan Dale Borts, Carol Schuster Borts, and Peggy Cassil Borts.

He is survived by daughter Phyllis (Borts) Beck of Blue Springs, MO; grandchildren Shaunda Hawkins and Vincent Oliver; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Harold Borts of Affton, MO, Gerald Borts of California, MO, Larry (Susan) Borts of Jamestown, MO, Jack (JoAnn) Borts of Fortuna, MO; sisters Elsie Dockins-Timm of Omaha, NE, Charlene (Uel) Smith of Jefferson City, MO, Dorothy (Charles) Schoenthal of Jamestown, MO; brother-in-law Abe Rohrbach of California, MO; sister-in-law Nadine Huddleston Borts of California, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his family life-long friend of 72 years and later in life companion Mary Ann Enyart of Independence, MO.
