Dorothy J. Cacioppo died on Friday, May 1, 2026, in NorthCare Hospice House.
Dorothy was born in Strong City, Kansas on September 9, 1938, to Marion and Mary Ann Beumer Haefling. She moved to Kansas City and graduated from Lillis High School in 1955. She married Tom Cacioppo, her husband of almost 54 years, on July 27, 1957. They had one daughter, Mary Frances.
Dorothy was a caregiver all her life as she cared for her daughter, her husband, and her sister. She was a volunteer substitute teacher at St. John the Baptist School, active parent at St. Pius X High School, and later member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish for many years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, daughter/son-in-law, and her sister.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers James Haefling, Joseph Haefling, and Fr. Maurice Haefling, OSB sisters Sr. Edna Haefling, OP, Patricia Haefling, Sr. Markita Haefling, OP, and Dolores Neidert. She is survived by her sister Val Campbell, daughter and son-in-law Mary Frances and Ronald Bittner, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Regina Pfeifer who was there when Dorothy needed her most.
Services will be held on Tuesday, May 12, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow the mass. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
