Obituary

Dorothy Josephine (Eggen) Simone, 90, of Northeast Kansas City, MO, passed away Friday, January 6, 2023, at Kansas City Hospice House.

Dorothy was born January 16, 1932, in Jefferson City, MO to Herman and Lillian (Carel) Eggen. Her dad died in 1935 and she and her siblings were raised by their mom through the great depression.  Dorothy attended St. Peter's Grade School / High School in Jefferson City, MO.  After graduation, Dorothy attended St. Mary's Nursing School in Kansas City, MO where she earned her Nursing Diploma and became an RN.

While in nurses training, she met her husband Nicholas A. Simone . They were married at St. Peter Cathedral in Jefferson City, MO on July 17, 1954, and were together for 58 years until his passing in 2012.

Dorothy worked as a nurse for 40 years beginning her career at St. Mary's Hospital  working in Recovery, OBGYN and then Oncology. When St. Mary's closed, she moved to Trinity Lutheran Hospital and continued to work in Oncology.   She was admired by her coworkers and patients and was proud to be a nurse.

She loved going to Chiefs games and was a trooper sitting though games in the pouring rain and freezing cold.  Dorothy also enjoyed going to the casino and playing the slots

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, stepfather OJ Bernskoetter, sister Martha (Eggen) Haller, brothers Clarence Eggen, Alfred Eggen, Paul Eggen, and stepbrother Cecil Bernskoetter. She is survived by her son Nicholas J. Simone; her daughter Mary Pat Simone; sister-in-law Kathleen Eggen; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services will be held on Thursday, January 12, at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Rosary at 11:00 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m.  Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Pallbearers:  Doug Eggen, Randy Haller, Jeff Hughes, Randy Prenger, John Simone, Peter Spiehs.
