Obituary

Dusty Linn Courtney, 44, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022, after spending days surrounded by an outpouring of love from family and friends. She overcame many battles in her life, but sadly cancer was not one of them.

Born in Lawrence, Kansas, on June 4, 1977, to Terri Benz and Kenneth Courtney, Dusty was the first of five siblings—survived by brother Conrad Courtney and sister MacKenzie Courtney, as well as half-sisters Lindsey Milan and Lauren Evilsizor.

From the start, Dusty was a beaming beauty with bright green eyes and a wide, easy smile—both her life-long arsenal for getting out of trouble, making people forgive her, and for making them believe her sometimes wild stories. Funny by nature, though sometimes quite pensive, Dusty could be a laugh factory or very serious with the unique ability to bring a room up or down on a whim.

As a mother of four to son Zachary Courtney, 28; daughter Tori Tamayo, 23; daughter Liyah Tamayo, 20; and son Luke Zuniga,10, Dusty loved her kids more than anything. She enjoyed cooking for them, watching movies, and taking them out to eat. She also enjoyed getting out with her best friend Amanda and held a comical love-hate relationship with her cat Randy.

Dusty is also survived by her stepfather Jeff Benz, grandfather Charles "Chuck" Atchison, sister-in-law Sarah Courtney, and a large extended family.

Now and forever, when Dusty comes to mind, so does her effortless beauty, silly giggle, and warm, welcoming heart.

The family asks that in place of flowers, donations be made to Generations Care Hospice as a thank you for the tender and dedicated care they provided to Dusty.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 18, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home with Visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Service at 11:00 a.m.
