On Monday January 6, 2020, Elizabeth "Joan" Boman, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away at the age of 83 years.  She was a loving mother, truly devout Catholic, and a strong businesswoman.  She married our father Robert L. Boman Sr. in 1953 at the age of 18 years old and shared 53 years of marriage filled with laughter, devotion, faith, friendship and most importantly true love. She considered herself "still married" and wore her wedding ring every day with honor and pride.  Her legacy of three children included sons - Robert L. Boman Junior and Sean E. Boman and daughter -Elizabeth A. Boman who adored and love their mother more than words can ever say.  Her memories also live on with the grandchildren and great grandchildren: Jessica Boman, Jacob Boman, Alexandra Shire, Ella Boman, Sean Boman, Leila Miquelon, Kiara Powell and Kaden Powell. She also leaves her sister, Teresa Heeter; brother, Mike Nolan; sister-in-law, Jackie Nolan; brother-in-law, Danny Boman; sister-in-law, Carolyn Boman; sister-in-law, Anna Maude Edie; and sister-in-law, Matte Fountain.

Elizabeth was born and raised in Wentworth, MO and graduated from Pierce City, MO high school.  Everyone in school called her Joan and pronounced it like Joanne.  She loved all sports and in high school proudly led the band as the band majorette.  During courtship to our father she moved to Kansas City, MO and had her first job at Harzfeld's in downtown Kansas City as a clerk and model for women's clothing.  She then went into the grocery store business at Safeway as a butcher. Her real calling was set on being a stay at home Mom with the birth of her children; first son Bobby in 1961 and continued with her daughter Liz in 1971 and then son - Sean in 1973. Eventually she ventured out with different passions from being a Yoga instructor to a Shackley Vitamins Representative, Life Insurance Sales, and Mary Kay Cosmetics.  In the mid-1980s, she received her real estate license and worked for Century 21, Remax, and retired from Reality Executives. Real estate is where she found her career passion and success. She had no college degree but was very business savvy and made sure her kids were as well. She was known for her ethical business sense and helping her clients get the "best deal" possible. From her children to many family members and friend, many would seek her advice when there were negotiations that needed to take place.

Her dedication to serving others goes beyond local charities to national and international donations including her pride in adopting a child in India who she supported through his grade school, high school and college years to present day.  Mom loved " hard " and that is how she raised her children as to do everything you could for others and to never give up on what you truly believe in.  Her love of the Lord was seen from her being a Eucharistic Minister and Liturgist at Holy Family Catholic Church and The Cathedral of Immaculate Conception.  Her word touched many throughout the city, at home, and around the world from the friendships she had formed.  She loved to feed the hungry and found purpose in praying for others.  Reading scripture from our bible and evangelizing His word was her ultimate love and passion and she took on everything with a desire to learn more.  Mom never stopped reading and sharing her knowledge with her children, grandchildren, sister, brother, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends and actually anyone she met throughout her years.

Anyone who visited her home knew her love for cooking and feeding others from her fried chicken, butterscotch pie to her delicious butter horn rolls (her unique name for crescent rolls). She also cooked "All Natural" and wanted you to know how she purchased "Healthy" groceries to prepare the meal you were about to taste.  Her next runner up love was music and dancing as she enjoyed the jitterbug and listening to Nat King Cole and Ray Charles.  Music was in her heart and would tell everyone that she could feel each note in every bone in her body.  She was famous for telling great stories and always had words of wisdom, love, and kindness for all who met her. She and her late husband loved to garden together and especially enjoyed their rose gardens.  She said the secret her and dad shared was crushing up eggshells and mixing with coffee grounds as that made them the hearty and big.  They loved to plant together and watch the plants grow together, as they watched their children and grandchildren grow.  Her ability to make others laughs was positively contagious and she loved to "cut up" as she would say with the best of us.  She was a committed and strong-willed charismatic woman; who would go to bat for everyone she loved … as she had a heart of gold.  Because of who she was and what she stood for is what made her kids and grandchildren the strong and independent individuals they are today.  We are eternally grateful for our mother and our love extends forever and always.  We miss you so much!

The Rosary will be at 5 p.m. followed by Visitation 5:30 - 8:00 pm on Friday, January 10, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124.  The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in memory of Joan at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, January 11, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 416 W. 12 ^th St., Kansas City, MO 64105.  Entombment will follow at Mount Olivet Mausoleum. Please join us for lunch and a celebration of life at Drexel Hall on Saturday from 12pm – TBD @ 3301 Baltimore Ave., Kansas City, MO 64111.  This one's for you Mom! xoxoxoxoxo
