Erika Helga
Huberta Sullivan
May 15, 1938 — Jun 7, 2022
Erika Helga Huberta Sullivan, 84, passed away on Tuesday June 7, 2022 at Liberty Hospital with her daughters and their father by her side.
Erika was born May 15, 1938, in Munich, Germany and lived there as a child during WWII. She told a story of the day in 1945, when she was seven years old, she and her family were saved by the American soldiers while hiding in a potato cellar. On the brink of starvation and overwhelmed by fear of what the Americans would do to them, she soon learned they were the saviors of her country. From that day on, America is where she knew she would be. Erika arrived in America in 1955 at 17 years old after meeting her first husband, who was stationed at the American military base in Germany. They were married and came to live in the United States where she proudly became an American citizen. Erika worked as a licensed cosmetologist until she fully retired at the age of 77.
Erika is survived by her niece Karin Ostler (81), who still resides in Germany; her two sons James Hill and Michael Sullivan; her two daughters Tanya Di Martino (Joe) and Lisa Obermeyer (Jared); her 10 grandchildren Amanda Hanrahan (30) (Matt), Austin Sullivan (25), Michael Sullivan (12), triplet boys: Sam (10), Adam (10) and William Sullivan (10), Madonna (18) and Gianina (16) DiMartino, Analiese (10) and Mina (7) Obermeyer. She was ecstatic to recently find out about her forthcoming great-grandson, Hudson Thomas Hanrahan, who is to arrive on September 16, 2022.
Erika was a strong woman, a very hard worker, and loved her family! She was an avid pet lover and over the many years raised birds, cats, and dogs. She was faithful in her monthly donations to the Wayside Waifs and would be honored to have donations sent there in lieu of flowers.
Services will be held on Monday, June 13, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
