Frank Andrew Cutrera, 90, Lee's Summit, Mo., passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, February 14, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124. Family and friends will gather for a funeral service at Red Bridge Baptist Church, 4901 E. Red Bridge Rd., Kansas City, MO 64137 at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 15. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Frank was born on November 2, 1925, to Joseph and Joanne Cutrera. A tireless worker, Frank believed that "the number one way a man takes care of his family is by taking care of his job." A product of the Great Depression, Frank was a practical man with extraordinary "common" sense. He was a successful small businessman for over 60 years. Among other accomplishments, he was the founder of convenience stores Country View Market, Blue Valley Market, and The Top Spot. He learned from his mistakes and was an outstanding model of perseverance for all who knew him. His experiences gave him wisdom that he shared freely with anyone who asked but never imposed upon anyone. Frank was universally respected because he treated everyone with dignity and respect. He always put his family's needs above his own. A member of the Greatest Generation, Frank served in the United States Navy during World War II. His ship was at sea for 29 consecutive months, stopping only for refueling and supplies, and he participated in many major battles, most notably the battle for Iwo Jima. He was extremely moved when the Kansas City Royals recognized his military service during the 2014 Wild Card game.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Frances (Giordano) Cutrera; sister and brother-in-law Fannie and Phil Tornabene; sister Teresa Cavallaro; brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Dorothy Cutrera; and grandchildren Michelle Cutrera and Johnny Joe Cutrera.

Frank is survived by his children and their spouses, Joe and Anna Clare Cutrera, Joanne and Nick Fazzino, Anna and Sam Broberg, Sam P. Cutrera, Rose Marie Kelly, Frank J. Cutrera, Nick and Pilar Cutrera; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Marie and Carl Saitta, Virginia Giordano, Audrey Giordano; and many nieces and nephews.
