Frank Scimeca's Obituary
Frank "Chico" Scimeca, 96, Overland Park, KS, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2012. Visitation will be 10-11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, November 28, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11300 W. 103rd St., Overland Park, KS 66214, where the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12 noon. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Raytown, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association.
Frank was born June 24, 1916 in Onalaska, TX to Fillippo and Antonia Scimeca. The family moved to the Kansas City area when Frank was 2 months old, and it has been his home ever since. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, serving as a member of the 24th Fighter Central Squadron in defense of the San Francisco Bay area. He married Antoinette Oliver on September 23, 1942. She preceded him in death on December 13, 1980. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Grace Bono, Jacqueline Gatto, and Josephine Tripp; and his brothers, Frank Lucido, Louis Scimeca, and Phillip Scimeca Jr., the youngest member of the Scimeca family, who passed away at the age of 21. Upon discharge from the service in 1946 Frank, together with his father Fillippo and brother Louis, started Scimeca's Market where he worked until his retirement in January of 1981. Frank was a member of American Legion Post 370, and was a past member of the Elks Club, the Moose Lodge, and the Eagles Lodge. His favorite hobbies were ballroom dancing and cooking.
Frank is survived by his present wife, Kathy Scimeca; daughter, Anita Pileggi and husband John; son, Phillip Scimeca and wife Rozanne; grandchildren, Joe and Michelle Pileggi, Frank and Rorry Pileggi, Phil and Whitney Pileggi, Maria and Howie Olson, Frank Scimeca, Toni and Anthony Bonadonna, Ross and Sara Scimeca; 15 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Margaret Fontana.
Pallbearers will be Frank's grandsons.
Honorary Pallbearers: Sal Shortino and Carl Shortino.
The family offers special thanks to the staffs of Garden Villas, Delmar Gardens, and Overland Park Regional for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Frank.
