Gerald "Jerry" Paul Fornelli, the second of eleven children was born to James and Margaret Fornelli, on August 29, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois. As the 2nd oldest of 11 siblings, he was a mentor and protector to his younger siblings.  When he was a teenager, he effortlessly glided into the spotlight as a dancer on the Jim Lounsbury Show, captivating audiences with his moves. His talents weren't confined to the dance floor; he was also a gifted football player, a testament to his multifaceted abilities. In high school, Jerry met Sandy, the love of his life. Undeterred by obstacles, his persistent pursuit of her heart paved the way for an incredible 57 year love story. On April 16th, 1966, they were married and shortly thereafter Sandy joined Jerry in Germany where he was stationed. Jerry dutifully served his country in the Army as a Military Policeman for two years.

In 1969, the Fornelli family welcomed their firstborn son with joy. Subsequently, a daughter graced their lives in 1972, followed by the arrival of their youngest son in 1977. Jerry's commitment to education was unwavering, culminating in the attainment of his bachelor's degree from Elmhurst College in 1985. This was no easy task while working full-time and caring for a family of five. Another testament to his work ethic and determination.

In 1987, a new chapter began as Jerry's career led him to Stanley Hardware and brought him to Kansas City where he oversaw the Distribution Center and swiftly became an integral part of the community. His involvement with the KC UNICO chapter allowed him to forge lasting friendships and serve as its President on two occasions. Jerry's generous spirit extended beyond his professional life as he dedicated his time to coaching youth sports, presiding over the KC Youth Hockey Association, and leading as a Cub Scout Pack Leader. Jerry exuded a compelling presence that left an enduring impression on all who crossed his path.

Among Jerry's greatest joys were his nine beloved grandchildren. Their milestones, games, and performances were cherished moments that brought immense pride and happiness to Jerry's life. In 2012, Jerry and Sandy embarked on a new adventure, acquiring a winter house in Chandler, Arizona, where they embraced the warmth of both climate and companionship. Their time there was filled with newfound friends, family, bocce ball leagues, water volleyball matches, and dances that added a touch of rhythm to their days.

Jerry's legacy lives on through his family. He is survived by his wife, Sandy, son, Jim Fornelli, daughter, Lisa Brown, son, Gerald (Lisa) Fornelli, and 9 grandchildren Alexis, Angela, Maggie, McKinney, Joey, Rickey, Natalie, Olivia, and Jackie. As Jerry embarks on his final journey, he is reunited with his parents, brother Larry and son-in-law, Rickey, his memory kindles a flame of determination, a boundless capacity for love and camaraderie, and an unswerving commitment to family and community.

Jerry's life will be celebrated at a visitation on Friday, August 18th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. followed by a service from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home located at 2117 Independence Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri.  A graveside service is planned for Saturday, August 19th at 12:00 p.m. at Resurrection Cemetery at 8300 Quivira Road in Lenexa, Kansas. For the graveside services, you are welcome to dress informally and, if you wish, don any Chicago sports attire. In lieu of flowers, a memorial with JDRF has been established.
