Gonzalo Gonzalez "GG" Fabela, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at the age of 91. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124, where the Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 16, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 309 Benton Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, KS.
Gonzalo was born in Kansas City, KS, on January 10, 1926. He retired in 1988 from KC Cold Storage after 32 ½ years. Gonzalo was a loving and caring father and papa. He never knew a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone who would listen. If you entered his home you had to be prepared to eat because he always wanted to feed you – hungry or not. He made friends everywhere he went because he was that kind of man.
Gonzalo leaves behind his seven children: Gonzalo "Tony" Fabela (Rosie), Catalina "Cathy" Carrete, Maria Bradshaw (Rodney), Gerardo "Jerry" Fabela, Edjuardo "Eddie" Fabela (partner Dorothy), Juan "Lencho" Fabela (Lynn), Elisa "Lisa" Dorkin; his granddaughter, Maria, who he raised as his own; former daughter-in-law, Theresa Fabela; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
Gonzalo was preceded in death by his parents, Gerardo Fabela and Petra Gonzales; sisters, Carmen Goslin, Eulalia "Lala" Fabela, Refugio "Cuca" Gonzales; brother, Antonio "Tony" Fabela; his granddaughter, Adina Fabela; and daughter-in-law, Kathleen "Kathy" Fabela.
The family wishes to thank the staff at The Groves for their care, love and support during his short time there, and the hospice staff who made sure his needs were met and that he was comfortable.
