Gregory Charles McGrath, 57, Independence, MO, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016. Visitation will be 10 a.m. with a Prayer Service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 3736 S. Lee's Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice.
Greg was born July 29, 1958, in Kansas City, MO. He played trombone in marching and concert bands, and was a Boy Scout. Greg started work as a sacker at A&P as a teenager and soon aspired to be a meat cutter like his uncle Joe which he did become and he was a meat cutter his entire career. Greg developed a love for fishing as a young boy when his father and uncle took Greg along with his brothers and cousins on fishing trips to the Lake of the Ozarks. Greg continued this tradition his whole life with his buddy Jimmy, his son-in-law, and grandkids. Greg was a devout Catholic who led a kind-hearted, forgiving, and prayerful life. Greg was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Paul Franklin McGrath; and brother, Stephen Todd McGrath. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and John McClain; his grandchildren, Braden, Aliyah, Quentin, Kenyon, Donovan, Aria, Lexa, Jordyn, and Taylor McClain; mother, Shirley Marie McGrath; siblings, Paul McGrath (Debbye), Erin Shepherd, and Matthew McGrath; and nephews, Adam McGrath (Amanda), Wayne McGrath (Mary Ellen), Jacob Shepherd (Gabriella), and Jeremy Shepherd (Suzie).
