Our one-a-kind dad, dear brother, grandfather, and friend to many, Harold Lee Dellinger, was born Sept. 12, 1947, in Kirksville, MO, and died June 2, 2018, in Kansas City, MO.

Harold was a proud, loyal Missourian with a great many avocations and a strong love for his fellow human beings. He was a writer and storyteller, researcher and historian. His longstanding interests were in baseball, 19th century outlaws and lawmen, and life in rural Missouri from the Civil War to present day. He shared his curiosity and knowledge widely and generously and brought joy to his family and friends. He encouraged his children and grandchildren in all things and was a very caring man and a gentleman. Harold graduated from Carrollton High School, class of 1965, and studied sociology and political science at Central Missouri State University, graduating in 1969. He worked as a parole officer, social worker, writer, and book person. He was a member of organizations including the Friends of the James Farm, Quantrill Society, Society for American Baseball Research, and Lykins Neighborhood Association.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Gene Dellinger and Lois Lee Tadlock  Dellinger. He is survived by his children, Emily McGovern (Jeff), H. Joshua Dellinger (Annette), and Laura Ganschow (Jakob); grandchildren Baird Dellinger, Tomas McGovern, and Mary Kathryn Dellinger; his siblings William Dellinger, Cleo Hewett, and David Dellinger; his many nieces and nephews; and by Janet L Dellinger.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 14th 4-7 p.m. with eulogy at 6 p.m. at Passantino Bros Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, MO. Burial will be held Saturday, June 16th at 11 a.m. at Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, MO (Local arrangements through Norman Funeral Home ). The family requests no flowers, but contributions can be made to Friends of the James Farm .
