Hugo J. Bartolomi, 98, passed away March 16, 2024.

Hugo was born on November 25, 1925, in Kansas City, MO, to the late Nazzareno and Angelina Giambartolomie. He grew up in the Northend (Little Italy) at 5th and Campbell and lived there his whole life. He was drafted into the U.S. Navy at 18 years old and served two years. He worked as a cabinet maker before being brought into his wife's family business in 1950 as a funeral director and florist for the late Peter B. Lapetina. He also worked as a bartender at Lorelei Lounge and continued that career at several other Italian restaurants before retiring from Jenny's Restaurant. Simultaneously, he was a funeral director for Sebbeto Funeral Home beginning in 1963. He was known as a jack of all trades.

Hugo met Rosemary Lapetina in 1947 and they married in 1950. Together, they had four children and raised their family on Campbell Street, creating a loving and nurturing environment. The rest was history. Throughout his life, Hugo found joy in simple pleasures such as golfing, laughing, and telling jokes while hanging out with friends, and being with all his family. As mentioned, he lived in the Northend his entire life where he was known by everyone, sitting outside on his front porch in his rocking chair. Friends would stop by and have a memorable conversation with Hugo. He would tell stories you could never forget. His dedication to hard work was evident in every aspect of his life and his warm smile had a remarkable ability to brighten any room. Hugo was deeply cherished and admired by all who knew him, leaving behind a lasting legacy of love, laughter, and resilience.

Along with his parents, Hugo was preceded in death by his son Joey; granddaughter Nina Bartolomi; brother Memo; and sisters Mary Vittoria and Alvina Russo.

He is survived by his wife Rosemary Bartolomi; son and daughter-in-law Anthony and Tami Bartolomi and their children Anthony Jr., Angela, Gino and Justin, and great-grandchildren Anthony, Duncan, Bellah and Lynnette; daughter and son-in-law Shirley and Tony Giarraputo and their children Vinnie, Antonino and Damiana, and great-grandchildren Viviana, Benicio and Mila; daughter and son-in-law Nikki and Larry Trombino and their children Santino, Valencia and Marcella.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 23, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the Funeral Mass following at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Mt. Saint Mary's Cemetery.
