Mr. Dang Viet Hung (Anton), 71, went to be with his Lord on August 24, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Visitation and prayer service will be 5-9 PM Friday, September 3, at Passantino Bros Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Saturday, September 4, at Church of the Holy Martyrs (7801 The Paseo, Kansas City, MO 64131; live stream at https://www.youtube.com/c/HolyMartyrsKC ) followed by graveside ceremony at Mt. Saint Mary's Cemetery.
Anton was born on June 20, 1950, in Thái Bình City in northern Vietnam. He was married to Dinh Thi Tot (Judy) after a serendipitous meeting and courtship that lasted three years.
During his time in Vietnam, he served as a fighter pilot after training in the United States. He was a prisoner of war for three years before immigrating to the US. He settled in Kansas City, MO where he and his wife raised six children. He worked for over 25 years at Hibachi Japanese Steakhouse on The Country Club Plaza. There he entertained many KC Chiefs players and various celebrities who came for dinner.
He was a devout Catholic, and his faith ran deep. He was very involved in the church community and served as a catechist in the RCIA ministry. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, football, gardening, barbecue, cold beer, action movies, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was known for his discipline, work ethic, and commitment to his family. He left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Anton is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Judy; his children Adam Dang (Loan), John Dang (Huong), Rosa Dang (Sokly), Dr. Diana Dang (Stephen), Dr. Teresa Dang (Jonathan), Sarah Dang (Bradley); his grandchildren, Ethan, Keira and Aimee Dang, Maddie and Jonah Dang, Noah and Isaac Lach, Hero and Kitty Spottswood, Charlotte Chu; as well as many brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.
Pallbearers: Adam Dang, John Dang, Sokly Lach, Jonathan Spottswood, Bradley Geisler, Ethan Dang, Peter Nguyen.
