James "Pat"
Schmidt
Feb 14, 1952 — Oct 21, 2022
James Patrick Schmidt Jr., "Pat", aka "Spike", passed away after an accident on Friday, October 22, 2022.
Pat was born February 14th, 1952, in Kansas City, MO to James P. Schmidt and Margaret Schmidt. He graduated from Saint Pius X High School in 1970. After graduation Pat worked for Skil Bosch for over 25 years. He had a lifelong career of working in Kansas City and considered the community of Columbus Park his home. Pat was a man with a heart of gold and was loved by many. He had a contagious laugh and a lively sense of humor. Pat could often be found tinkering and building things in his garage. Pat's garage was always open for people to stop by for a beer or if a stranger had a flat tire, he was always happy to fix it. Pat was the most forgiving landlord of all time, often accepting IOU's, objects for rent and unbelievable stories which he often knew were fictitious. His favorite pastime was giving nicknames to those in his life – whether they liked it or not (most nicknames stuck). Pat was a big Harley Davidson fan. Pat and his friends enjoyed going on motorcycle trips. They frequently went to Sturges and on other adventures. Pat loved stopping by The Quaff, where he had lifelong relationships. He also loved fishing at Weatherby Lake and going on trips to Costa Rica. Pat will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and people in the communities he impacted.
Pat is survived by his sister Ann Schmidt Mertes; his brothers Michael and David Schmidt; and multiple nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Schmidt, and his dear friend Carl Cobb.
