Janet Sue Martin Migliazzo, 76, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully surrounded by those who loved her most.  Born on October 10, 1949, in Kansas City, Janet was a woman whose quiet grace, deep humility, and unwavering devotion to family and community defined a life beautifully and fully lived.

A Kansas City Girl, Through and Through
Janet grew up in Kansas City, attending Southwest High School, where she carried herself with a blend of warmth and strength that would define her entire life.  She was raised alongside her older brother Jimmy Martin, whose quiet, steady presence provided the foundation she needed during a childhood shaped early by loss. Janet's mother, Vera Sloan, passed away when Janet was just two years old; a heartbreak that could have hardened her but instead softened her into the most compassionate of women.  That early challenge set the tone for a life lived with remarkable humility, resilience, and empathy for others.

As a girl, Janet grew up riding horses and making trips to Harper's Fabric with her beloved cousin Shelly Martin Neighbors.  More than cousins, Janet and Shelly were pseudo-sisters who were inseparable companions and shared the kind of bond that only deepens with time.  Together, they were the classiest country girls in all the Midwest.

A Calling, Not Just a Career
For over thirty years, Janet worked as a beautician and manicurist—and she loved every single day of it.  Her chair was more than a place of business; it was a place of connection, of listening, of care. Janet's customers became her extended family, and she became theirs. She had the rare gift of making every person who sat in her chair feel like the most important person in the world.

Faith, Family, and Fifty-Seven Years of Love
Janet married the love of her life, Ralph Migliazzo, and together they built a marriage spanning more than fifty-seven years; a partnership of devotion, laughter, and deep Catholic faith.  Together, they raised their two children, Anthony Martin Migliazzo and Bridget Celeste Migliazzo, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic School in Kansas City, where Janet was an influential and beloved presence among parents, teachers, and families throughout the school community.

Janet's passions were many, but none greater than her family and her kitchen. She was an extraordinary cook, having learned over decades at the side of Ralph's mother, mastering the recipes and traditions that would fuel countless holiday gatherings, with festiveness that rivaled FAO Schwarz in its highest-revenue year in the 1980s. But more than the spectacle, it was the love behind it: the cookies baked by the dozens, the meals prepared with care, and the home that was always, always open.

Quiet Courage, Extraordinary Grace
Janet was a cancer survivor on multiple fronts. She fought her battles the same way she lived her life—quietly, humbly, with bravery and grace. She never sought attention for her struggles and never let them define her. Instead, she let her faith, her family, and her deep well of inner strength carry her through every challenge.

Janet Sue Martin Migliazzo was an All-American Kansas City gal. Her gentle kindness, her love for her family, her ability to listen, and her quiet willingness to help anyone in need will forever be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her marriage to Ralph was a life well lived and well achieved—a testament to love, faith, and the beauty of an ordinary life made extraordinary by grace.

Services will be held on Thursday, April 9th, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2 East 75th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64114. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow the Mass. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
