Jerry Donald Shireman passed away January 10, 2026, at the age of 83.
Jerry was born on December 4, 1942, to Herbert and Garnet Shireman at their home in Roscoe, Missouri. He was the second child following his sister Beverly Marquis, now of Collins, Missouri. His younger sister, Marcia Dampf, now resides in Surprise, Arizona.
Jerry graduated from Oceola High School in 1961 after which he moved to Kansas City, Missouri to begin his career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. He joined the Army Reserves and was called up to serve at Fort Carson, Colorado from 1966-1969. He returned to Southwestern Bell and completed a very successful career with 37 years in the Marketing Department. During this time, Jerry obtained his bachelor's degree in business from Rockhurst College. He then worked for Harley Davidson for four years. Next, in 2003, Jerry and his wife Jennifer established a full-service lawn care business.
In 1971 Jerry married Cathy Glass Shireman. They had two children: Kerry, born in 1975, and Kelly Shireman Heegn, born in 1979. Jerry and Cathy divorced in 1990.
On April 27,1991, Jerry married Jennifer and they began a wonderful life together with Kerry, Kelly, and Jennifer's children David and Dena McMillin.
The joy of Jerry's life was his grandchildren: Connor Heegn, born on Christmas day in 2007, Felix McMillin, born July 10, 2013, and Zelda Ivy McMillin, born on November 5, 2015. They enjoyed endless fun together.
Jerry and Jennifer enjoyed motorcycling all over the country. Their favorite ride was to Silverton, Colorado which was their Happy Place. They loved to travel this beautiful country and made friends at each stop. Jerry never encountered a stranger and exchanged contact information with hundreds. He enjoyed life to the fullest and leaves behind countless friends and family.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his beloved brother-in-law Buzz Marquis, and his precious daughter Dena McMillin.
Jerry and Jennifer were long-time active members of Gloria Dei Lutheran church. Services will be held on Saturday, January 17, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Kansas City North. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested in Jerry's name to the Veterans Community Project, 8825 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64131.
