Obituary

James H. "Jim" Rogers, 75, of Independence, MO, passed away Monday, August 22, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family. The Rosary will be prayed at 9 a.m. followed by Visitation at 9:30 a.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 3736 S. Lee's Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Jim was born on May 9, 1941, in Chelsea, MA, to Albert and Florence (McManus) Rogers. He grew up in Kansas City, MO, and attended Our Lady of Good Council Grade School and Lillis High School. Jim served in the United States Air Force and had a long career as a commercial printer. He married Deva Agro on July 17, 1965, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kansas City. He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church. He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Deva; his daughters and sons-in-law: Gina and Vince Boucher, Deanna and Jim Howerton, and Lisa and Gary Haggerty; 11 grandchildren: Ben, Aaron, Noah, and Jacob Boucher, James and Annalise Howerton, Victoria, Nicholas, and Michael Haggerty, Amanda and Jeff Sisson, Sarah and Eric Swartz; and two great-grandsons, Gibson Sisson and Eric Swartz III. He also leaves his sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gloria and John Lipari, Salvatore "Bedu" Calandrino, and Dominick Agro, a true brother; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jim was a loving, devoted, and kind husband, father, grandfather, and family member; an inspiration to all who knew him. For the past three years, Jim courageously battled lung cancer and complications from the disease. He defied the odds over and over again, earning the nickname "Superman". He will always be our hero.

Pallbearers: John Lipari, Jr., Louis Calandrino, Salvatore Calandrino, Jr., Paul Guastello, Benny McGhee, Sr., and David Nigro.

A special thanks to Lorna McQuinn and Araceli Felder and all at Heartland Hospice who took care of Jim in his final months.
