Obituary

Jioseppina Armato (also known as Guiseppina, Pina, Penny, and most lovingly as Nani / Nonina) was born on December 18th, 1929, in Cefalu, Sicily, to Guiseppe and Maria Grazia Filippone. She passed away peacefully on Friday, August 18th, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Pina came to the United States in January of 1954 as a new bride to Vito Scaccia. They met while Vito was vacationing with family in Cefalu. While standing on his aunt's terrace, Vito was "hit by the lightning bolt" when he saw Pina walking down the street. In just 14 days, they met, engaged, and wed in June 1953. Together in Chicago, they would build a home filled with family, love, and music, and welcomed their two children Samuel and Graceann. They had 14 beautiful years together until Vito's death in February 1968. Pina always kept the love of music and family alive for herself and her children.

In 1973 Pina met and married (1975) Anthony Armato in Kansas City. Pina and Anthony worked together in her new home in Kansas City, running a small grocery store – Sheffield Market, on Independence Ave. There they enriched customer's lives with her delicious food and his fantastic produce. Together they spent their weekends enjoying their grandchildren. Pina had a passion for cooking, making homemade bread, a love for Christmas, and enjoying her gatherings of family and friends for coffee, and playing Rummy Royal on Tuesdays. Many of these passions she shared with her loved ones, passing on her magnificent skills and a love of life's simple pleasures. She was fortunate to have known not only eight grandchildren but also nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her spouses, Vito Scaccia and Anthony Armato; her parents; her beloved sister Lila; and her great-grandson Anthony Fischer, as well as siblings, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and beloved family members and dear friends.

Pina is survived by her daughter Graceann Milano (Michelangelo); son Sam Scaccia Sr. (Susan); grandchildren: Frank Milano (Pamela), Victoria Milano (Greg Valdovino), Michelangelo Milano Jr. (Ali Skye-Bennet), Anthony Milano (Savina), Paul Milano (Alaina), Sam Scaccia Jr. (Melony Chartier), Anthony Scaccia, and Joey Scaccia (Alyssa); great-grandchildren: Robert Michael Fischer (Elizabeth LaCapra), Annamarie Milano, Samantha Milano, Francesca Milano, Michelangelo Milano, Anthony Milano, Guiseppina Milano, Frankie Mike Milano, Angelina Milano, Camilla Scaccia, and Sofia Grace Scaccia; great-great-grandson Vincent Michael Fischer; many nieces and nephews, as well as great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
