Joe Pace passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, at the age of 77.

Born on December 29, 1948, Joe built a life defined by hard work, craftsmanship, and passion. A lifelong bodyman, he owned and operated Pace's Body Shop in Northeast Kansas City and dedicated his entire career to the art of automotive restoration and custom builds. His talent and reputation were widely known throughout the car community.

Joe was especially proud of his custom creations, including the Ghostbusters car, the Back to the Future car, and the Mutts Cutts van. These iconic builds brought him recognition at events across the region, where he enjoyed showcasing his work and connecting with fellow enthusiasts who shared his love for cars.

But beyond the cars and accomplishments, Joe had a huge heart. He loved deeply, gave generously, and formed lasting bonds with the people who mattered to him.

Beyond the garage, Joe faithfully served his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Blue Summit Fire Department for 30 years. He helped build both the fire department and the local park — contributions that remain standing today as part of his lasting legacy.

Joe is survived by four children, his two granddaughters Jenna Baldwin and Jessa Baldwin, and Justin Baldwin, who was like a son to him and who considered Joe a father. Their bond, rooted in a shared love of cars and countless hours spent together in the garage, was one of great pride and meaning in Joe's life.

In his final days, he was surrounded by loyal friends, and the family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by the staff at NorthCare Hospice House.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held on Saturday, March 28, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Boulevard Drive-In Theatre in Kansas City, Kansas. In true Joe fashion we will celebrate him the way he would have loved most… surrounded by cars, friends, stories, and laughter. Bring your hot rods, motorcycles, custom cars, and classic vehicle or simply come as you are and help us celebrate an amazing man. Hot dogs, sausages, and water will be provided until we run out. This event is FREE and open to anyone who would like to come celebrate Joe's life.

Joe will be remembered for his craftsmanship, his service, and the legacy he built — both in steel and in spirit.
