Obituary

John A. Amaro, 76, passed away March 18, 2024, at his Double Canyon Ranch estate in Carefree / Cave Creek, Arizona, where he loved to ride his horses, donkeys and enjoy his kitty cats.

John is survived by his wife of 34 years, Dr. Debra Richel; and his nephew Frank Ferguson and wife Kim; great-nephews Billy Ferguson, Christopher Ferguson, Vincent Ferguson; and brother-in-law Michael Wimmer, all of Kansas City, MO.

After serving as a medic in the U.S. Army, John became a First Responder Ambulance Driver in Kansas City, which initiated the first paramedics in the nation. Dr. John Amaro was a 1969 graduate of Cleveland Chiropractic College and went on to study acupuncture and Asian healing concepts in nine Asian nations. Thereafter successfully created a practice in Kansas City along with the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture Inc. and Acu International Supplies Inc. educating thousands of physicians worldwide on how to treat their patients utilizing natural medicine and Asian healing / acupuncture principles with manual chiropractic techniques. In 1984 he moved his home, practice, and businesses to Carefree, AZ being joined by Debra Richel in the early 1990's. The IAMA Inc. and Acu-International Supplies continue today educating physicians and providing high quality "tools of the trade" for the profession.

Dr. John Amaro was an author, motivational public speaker, inventor revolutionizing acupuncture diagnosis, healer, and passionate about caring for his patients, family, and friends. He will be remembered most for his ability to charm, entertain, and have "a story to tell" and "a hand to give" to whomever he met!

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 15, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kansas City, MO. Contributions are suggested to the Kentuckian Childrens Chiropractic Center in Louisville, KY; or Wild at Heart, a Cave Creek, AZ based raptor rescue organization (www.wildatheartowls.org).
