John Robert Hughes, 75, Platte City, MO passed away on July 23, 2017.

John was born in Kansas City MO on July 28, 1941, and was a longtime resident of Gladstone, MO.  He graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1959 and attended Southwest Missouri State University where he was a member of TKE fraternity.  John served in the United States Marine Corps, and was assigned to be a military sports correspondent for the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.  He returned to Kansas City following his honorable discharge and worked in banking and finance for many years.  He moved to working in the outdoors that he loved, spending many years at Game Hill and the Kansas City Trapshooters Association.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Glen Hughes and Iris Byrd; uncle John E. Hughes; son, Sheim Hughes; and Annette Hughes.  Survivors include daughters, Stacy Hughes, Heather Pace and husband John; and his loving grandchildren, Anna Marie, John Anthony and Nicholas Pace.

The family would like to thank Debbie Moran and Ann McDaneld and many others from the Leavenworth VA, and all the staff at the Kansas City Hospice House for their compassionate care.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124. Burial with Military Honors will be 9 a.m. Friday, July 28, at Leavenworth, KS National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the Kansas City Hospice House .
