Giovanni John Liberto, 90, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017. The Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. followed by visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 11, at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 6415 NE Antioch Rd., Gladstone, MO 64119. Entombment will be at Resurrection Mausoleum.
John was born March 22, 1927, in Cefalu, Sicily, Italy, to Salvatore and Isabella. He married Rosa Battaglia on July 25, 1953, and came to the United States in 1954. He was a master cabinet maker for Colonial Fixture Co. and Stultz Manufacturing before retiring in 1992. In 1993 Giovanni's Deli was opened in his name and he proudly helped his sons there until 2016.
John was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers Gaetano, Guiseppe, Rosario, Dominic, and Salvatore.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Rosa; his children: Salvatore, Frank (Cathy), Isabella, Joseph, Nancy, Vince (Tammy), and Rosario; his grandchildren: Celita (Carl Joseph), John (Savina), Rosa, Mary-Catherine (Chad), Rosario, and John; eight great-grandchildren; niece Isabella Chilelli (Peter) of Toronto, ON; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and relatives and friends in the United States and Cefalu, Sicily.
Pallbearers: John Phillip Liberto, Rosario Liberto, John Joseph Liberto, Carl Joseph Garcia, Chad Reinert, and Joe Lopez.
