John W. Melcher (Big John) of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away in his home on March 2, 2023.

John was born on January 5, 1941, in Anthony, Kansas, to Jay and Mary June Melcher.  He served in the United States Marine Corps and retired from TWA/American Airlines where he was sheet metal mechanic for over 35 years.  John was very involved in youth athletics where he coached numerous sports and served on many athletic boards. He absolutely loved to watch his son and grandkids participate in their athletic events.  He was always up for a party and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.  Outside of athletics, he spent most of his spare time at the Lake of the Ozarks.

John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Carol; and his son Todd Melcher (Antoinette).  He also leaves behind his grandson Callahan Melcher; granddaughters Kennedy Melcher and Stella Melcher; brothers Larry (Nancy), Mike (Cathy), and Richard; and his sister Linda (Mike). "Big John" was a loving Uncle and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Tuesday, March 7, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 7207 NW Highway 9, Kansas City, MO 64152. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 6:00 p.m.  Reception following the Mass at Weatherby Lake Community Center, 8230 NW Potomac Avenue, Weatherby Lake, MO 64152. Inurnment with Military Honors will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth, KS 66048.
