John Charles Messina 84, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday August 7, 2013. The Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. followed by visitation until 8 p.m. on Friday, August 9, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1357 NE 42nd Terr., Kansas City, MO 64116. Reflections at 11:15 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, at St. Patrick's Church. Entombment will follow in Mount Olivet Mausoleum. John was born in Kansas City MO April 26, 1929, the son of Charles and Sandy Messina. He graduated from De La Salle Military Academy in 1946. He was also an Eagle Scout and member of the Tribe of the Mic-O-Say. John was a draftee for the service in the armed forces and was stationed in Germany for two years. Upon returning in 1951, he began work at Commerce Bank of Kansas City as manager of the Bookkeeping Department and Assistant Manager of Data Processing. Later he became Vice President in the Correspondent Banking Department. He called on banks within the state of Missouri and in 1992 he retired after 41 years. He took great pride in his years at Commerce Bank. John also was an owner of Time Out Deli in City Center Square, where he worked after retirement from Commerce. In 1954 he married Marie Cascone, his soul mate. They have been parishioners of St. Patrick's Catholic Church for 55 years.
John was preceded in death by son, Charlie Messina; parents, Charles and Sandy Messina; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Lucia Cascone; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Joe Cipolla and Margaret and Jack Aleshi.
Survivors include wife of 59 years Marie (Cascone) Messina; daughters, Luci Messina, Sandi Messina-McMurtry and husband Jim; granddaughters, Michelle and Christine McMurtry; sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and Sam Mentesana; and his dog Chloe.
A beloved husband, father, papo, brother, and uncle. We will miss his BRIGHT SMILE and his gentle loving spirit.
