John Richard Montano, Jr., born in San Bernardino, CA on May 24, 1974, passed peacefully surrounded by his wife and kids in his Raytown home September 27, 2024.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served on Active Duty from 1994 - 1997 in Kuwait with the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry and Korea with the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry.

He enjoyed anything involving helping others; he truly loved assisting in his neighborhood community as well as spending time with his family. He never met a stranger. He could also be found "tinkering" around outside and in the garage or grilling/smoking dinner for his family.

He absolutely loved dogs, and his baby girls were his favorites (Bailey Sue and Callie Rose). He loved getting kisses from them, and how happy they always were to see him - the wiggle butts. He spoiled them rotten, even training Bailey to gently retrieve a skittle from his lips.

John met Megan Fluhart-Montano on Plenty of Fish and from their 1st date, March 2011, they knew they had something special, he proposed in August of 2011, and they married January 1, 2016. They enjoyed attending comedy shows, playing trivia games, and watching the Chiefs and Royals together. For both, their favorite thing to do was anything that involved spending time with their kids. He shared a proud military connection with Tiffani, a love for Pokémon with Tano, and a bond of trains with Andrew.

He is survived by his wife Megan and their three children: Tiffani Montano (27), John "Tano" Montano III (21), and Andrew Fluhart (15); siblings: Teñia "Teddy" Romo (Juan Martinez), Ruben Montano (Kira Jean), Ernie Montano, Stacy Guinn, Alan Akers, Ashley Salyers; Grandpa (Richard) Akers; father-in-law Gary (Malinda "Mindy"); mother-in-law Melody; several brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and a grand-puppy (Bella Mae).

John was preceded in death by his mother Penny Salyers; father John Montano Sr.; sister Stefany Mattingly; and brother Jayme "Fluffy" Montano.

Services will be held on Sunday, October 20, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers we are requesting donations be made to KCVA Volunteer Services - Attn: Hospice & Palliative Care, 4801 Linwood Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64128
