Father John Charles Schuele, 73, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on November 27, 2023. He was ordained in 1976 as a priest of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph and served in the parishes of Visitation, St. Thomas More, St. Therese Little Flower, St. Catherine of Sienna, St. Anthony, St. George in Odessa, and St. Jude the Apostle in Oak Grove.

Services will be held on Friday, December 1, at St. James Catholic Church, 5815 Pryor Avenue, St. Joseph, Missouri 64504. The Rosary will be prayed at 12:30 p.m. followed by Visitation at 1:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in St. Joseph. In lieu of flowers, Father John suggested memorial contributions to the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, P.O. Box 4190370, Kansas City, MO 64141.

Father John attended St. James Grade School in St. Joseph. He left his home in St. Joseph as a teen to attend St. John Seminary high school in Kansas City, where he made many lifelong friends. He graduated from Conception Seminary College in Conception, MO, and earned a master's degree from St. Paul School of Theology in St. Paul, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents Valeria and Frederick Schuele, and his brother, Father Francis Schuele. He is survived by brothers Fred Schuele (Trish Coupe-Schuele) and James Schuele, sisters Dr. Mary Schuele (Lee Judge) and Therese Schuele (Leon Munday), nephews Micah and Patrick Schuele, Matthew, Michael and Paul Judge, nieces Kate Munday, Sarah Munday and Ellen Munday Anderson, and grandniece Abigail Ruth Peek-Munday.

It would be an understatement to say music was a central part of Father John's life. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of the Beatles and their music and was himself an accomplished guitarist. A celebration of his life will be held in Kansas City at a later date in keeping with his wishes for "a party" after his funeral.
