Jose Jesus Martinez (Martin Del Campo), 93, of Independence, MO, passed away Wednesday November 8, 2017. The Rosary will be prayed at 5:15 p.m. followed by Visitation from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday, November 13, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124. Family & friends will gather on Tuesday, November 14, at St. Mark's Catholic Church 3736 S. Lee's Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055, where the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Lupus Foundation of America.
Jose was born December 8, 1923, in Guadalajara, Mexico, to Jesus Martin Del Campo and Rebecca Sanchez. He came to Kansas City seeking work when he met and fell in love with Nettie Flores, three months later they married and were together for 60 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, his passion was deer and turkey hunting with his friends in Osceola, MO. He loved to watch boxing matches, soccer and baseball. He was a devoted family man, family always came first. He worked for Kansas City Southern Rail Road for 35 years.
Jose was preceded in death by his parents; wife Nettie; and his sisters Margaret Valdez and Anna Sandoval. He is survived by his children, Alfonso Martinez (Jill), Larry Martinez, Suzanne Higbee (Joe), Gregory Martinez (Megan); grandchildren, Danielle Martinez, Joel Blevins, Rebecca Martinez, Natalie Martinez, Allison Martinez, Ava Martinez; step-grandchildren Matthew Higbee and Rachel Eis (Josh); great-grandson Ashdon Martinez; sisters Guillermina Villasenor and Obdulia Ocampo; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the people at Crossroads Hospice, especially Lauren, Levi, and Emily for wonderful care they provided. They would also like to thank NorthCare Hospice house.
