Jose Angel Montes, 64, passed away April 8, 2021. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124.

Jose was born in Romita, Guanajuato, Mexico on May 16, 1956, to the late Gregorio and Isabel Montes. With his family, he owned and operated Palomino's Authentic Mexican Restaurante for over 26 years, beginning in the Northeast Kansas City area before expanding to the Fairmont district. The restaurant was a pioneer on Independence Avenue, opening in a location that was challenging. The family not only survived but thrived to become an integral part of the Northeast business community. Jose loved people. To him, his customers were family.

Jose is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Rebecca Montes; his daughter Veronica Chavez and son-in-law Joe; his son Gregory Montes; his grandchildren Jolee, Monica, and Kamila Chavez; and his siblings Celina, Andrea, Daniel, Guadalupe, Rosa, Elia, and Jesus. He was preceded in death by his son Richard in 2007, and his brothers Roberto and David.
