Joseph F. Baker, Sr., passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, at the age of 90. Services will be held on Thursday, February 12, at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church in Independence, Missouri. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. [ LIVE STREAM ] Burial will take place at Mt. Washington Cemetery.

Joe was born on February 16, 1935, in Kansas City, Missouri, to the late Charles and Naomi (Fraas) Baker. He was a proud graduate of De La Salle High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Drury University.

An entrepreneur at heart, Joe owned several businesses throughout his life and was known for his sharp mind and independent spirit. He also worked as a consultant and expert witness, sharing his knowledge and experience with others. A gifted writer, Joe was an author and poet, always thoughtful and reflective in his words.

As a lifelong Catholic, Joe lived his faith daily. He was a world traveler and once had the honor of being a guest of the Queen of England. He proudly shared a "left-handed" handshake with Harry Truman, a moment he cherished. Joe was a devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan, enjoyed watching MMA, and was known to be a very good dancer.

Among his favorite things in life were being read to and having his back rubbed by his beloved wife of nearly 70 years, as well as enjoying his favorite treat—Eskimo Pies.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Glenda; his children Rebecca Bishop (Rylan), Theresa Baker, Joseph Baker, Jr., and Stephen Baker (JoAnn); his grandchildren William Bruderman (Briana), Britney Gardner (Nicholas), Andrew Neutzler (Ashley), Veronica Lucero (Alex), Colin Baker (Hannah), Madison Baker (Will), and Jackson Baker; his brothers Dick (Barbara) and Paul (Collene); his sisters-in-law Shirley, Beverly, and Barbara; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his son, Christopher John Baker, and his brothers Charles, Bill, Frank, Pat, and Dan.

Joe will be remembered for his intellect, curiosity, faith, warmth, great sense of humor, and the deep love he had for his family.
