Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share the unexpected passing of Joseph Michael Messina on February 3, 2025.

Joe was born on August 15, 1957, to Domonic and Rose (Saragusa) Messina in Kansas City, Missouri. After growing up in Kansas City, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Joe had a great love of music and for several years worked as a DJ in local clubs. Later in his life, he became a business owner, owning an appliance store and dry cleaners. Throughout his life, Joe's love of music remained constant and for over 30 years he worked as a music director at several parishes in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta.

In his lifetime Joe has made countless friends who will miss him dearly.  He was always ready with a smile and a helping hand. He will be remembered for his ability to show kindness to anyone he encountered, his generous nature, and willingness to help anyone in need.

Joe's family would especially like to thank his dear friend Judi Quimby. Joe was beyond blessed to have such an amazing friend. There are no words to express the appreciation we have in our hearts for her kindness, concern, and the devoted friendship they shared.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Domonic and Rose Messina. He is survived by his sister Mary Licata and her husband Sal. Joe also leaves behind nephews Michael Messina, Robert Messina, Salvatore Licata III (Lauren);  niece Danielle Reith (Joseph); great-nephews and great-nieces Domonic Licata, Luca Licata, Charlie Reith, Lily Reith, and Mila Reith.
